“Worldwide 600 million children live in extreme poverty. Almost half the world — over 3 billion people — live on less than $2.50 a day.” – Taken directly from Compassion Internationals website, this statistic is truly shocking. In a survey conducted in Niger in 2002, the impoverished were asked by the Office of the Prime Minister to describe poverty. Here is what they came up with: An utter and absolute dependence to having to seek out work from someone else. Being alone with no support or any sort of means of financial stability. On top of all this was an over-all feeling of restricted freedoms and rights. Compassion International seeks to turn this issue around, providing those less fortunate children with the means of becoming the key to their own success.
The youth in our society are undoubtedly the key to our planet’s future. That being said, investing in their success is essential to our society’s development. To ensure a better world in the near future, guiding all of our youth to the point of being a fulfilled, responsible, and contributing adult is critical. Here at Cedar Fence Direct, we hold these values to be true, which it’s exactly why we are involved with Compassion International.
Compassion is a child-advocacy ministry that pairs compassionate volunteers with those who are suffering from poverty. Compassion International started in South Korea in 1952 and has expanded exponentially since then. “We don’t just feel the person’s pain from afar, but we act upon it, even if we aren’t physically near them. This is what differentiates between compassion and empathy. Compassion involves a desire to help!” With the goal to help every child succeed in becoming a fulfilled adult, Compassion International is now a world-wide ministry that has helped millions of children.
Worldwide 600 million children live in extreme poverty. Almost half the world — over 3 billion people — live on less than $2.50 a day.
Our team fundamentally agrees with Compassion’s mission. No matter what the circumstances may be, every child has the intrinsic right to become a successful and fulfilled adult. Our team sponsors the less fortunate youth by volunteering as an advocate. As advocates we do everything we can to increase the awareness of the impoverished and less fortunate children around the world.
Compassion International offers two main types of volunteer/advocacy positions: financial supporters or on-site event volunteers. To qualify as a financial sponsor, Compassion only asks that you donate $240 over the course of 12 months; which is only $20 a month. Compassion’s events are hosted all around the country and range from large, outdoor festivals to more intimate concerts at a small coffee shops. Whether it’s a financial advocate position or an on-site event, our team wants to get involved anyway they can.
Are you interested in getting involved with Compassion International? We hope so! There are plenty of events held on an annual basis and donating $20 a month isn’t a burden, either. Compassion is always looking for more assistance; there are a lot of children in the world that need help! Getting involved is easy, so visit www.compassion.com to learn more about those volunteer opportunities.
