Picking a fence for your home can be very intimidating. When you are deciding which fence is right for you, you must consider the cost, design, install, and life span. There are several different types of fencing out there to choose from and they all have pros and cons. It’s up to you to pick which fences’ pros outweigh the cons. This process can be challenging, and we understand that. That’s why we have put together an article of the questions you should ask yourself to make sure you make the right choice.
What to Consider When Picking a Fence
Question #1 – What do you want when it comes to your design?
A homeowner may get a fence installed for a multitude of different reasons. Some things to consider are whether you have small pets and children to keep safe, your level of privacy, and the size of your property. If you are wanting privacy, then maybe investigate the types of fencing in which you have the option to customize the height. If you want to keep small pets in, than a split rail or ranch rail may not be for you. This is the first step in buying a fence.
Question #2 – How do you want it to look to guests?
This goes along with the curb appeal of your home- how do you want your home to look on the outside? Do you want your fence to enhance the look of your home and create a luxurious and upscale look or do you want a basic fence that simply compliments your home? Your fence also accents your overall style and by this we mean if you want a rustic appeal, a wooden fence would be ideal. Maybe you want a vintage look and a white picket fence fits best. Imagine how you want your home to look and try and replicate that image.
Question #3 – Can you tie in accents from your home into your fence?
By this, we mean that if you have brick or stone accents on your home, can you implement these accents into your fence through base outlining or support columns. This is a very good way to tie your home and fence together.
Question #4 – Do you want to complement your home’s color?
Do you want to compliment the colors or style of your home with your fence? If so, you will want to look for the specific style or color in your desired type of fencing. Most suppliers sell multiple different color shades of composite and of course, if you have raw wood fencing you can stain it whatever color you desire.
Question #5 – What can you add to your fence to enhance the overall look?
There are a few different ways you can enhance your fence style with paints, stain, metal artwork, and landscaping. A particularly popular accent for fencing is adding flowers, plants, and vines that run along the bottom of your fence and drape across it.
