Currently, we are dealing with the global pandemic that is COVID-19. This virus has continued to spread and in an attempt to stop it in its tracks, businesses have closed, workers are told to stay home, schools are now online, and lots of community projects and recreational events have come to a halt. With that said, many of us are finding ourselves stuck at home with kids that are full of energy and pets that are wanting to be outdoors. While you can’t go out for ice cream or visit the zoo, you can do a variety of different things from the comfort and safety of your own backyard.Â
Play SportsÂ
This is a great one if you’re looking for a way to keep your kids entertained and active. Play a game of football, baseball, kickball, volleyball, soccer, or even grass hockey! Get creative and come up with some fun rules that you have to follow to make it interesting. Even add a prize for the winner to keep committed and dedicated. Check out Pinterest and Google for some fun game ideas. There is a lot you can achieve with a little imagination and few materials.Â
Clean UpÂ
Take some time to clean up your yard so it’s ready for summer and get-togethers once this virus has passed. This is the perfect time to give your kiddos some chores to do like raking up leaves, pulling weeds, picking up trash and debris, or even repairing fences and decks if needed. Considering you have all the time in the world there is no reason why your backyard shouldn’t be clean.Â
RedecorateÂ
Spice up your backyard by adding some new décor, building planter boxes, add a garden, or even paint or stain your fence and/or deck a new color! With summer right around the corner, this is the time to get your space ready for the late nights drinking with friends, BBQs, pool parties, and tanning sessions. Add some new furniture and some accents to enhance the look of your backyard so it’s the ultimate backyard space. Â
Board Games or Read Â
If you have a space in the backyard that has a seating area with some chairs or an empty space that you can pop up a table, grab your favorite board games, and play with the family! This way you can enjoy the outdoors, soak up the sun, get some fresh air, and still play your favorite games. You could even read your favorite book while lying in the sun! Just being outside and breathing fresh air will help keep you sane during the quarantine.
DIY ProjectsÂ
Have you had a DIY project that you’ve been avoiding or haven’t been able to do because you were low on time? Well, now you have all the time in the world now and can do whatever you want with it. Gather up the materials for that new bench, or table you have been wanting to build and get it done! Or if you’re bored and looking for something to do, get your kids and build a birdhouse or a gardening box for mom so she has something of her own! Pinterest is full of ideas and DIY projects that you could work on.Â
GardeningÂ
Lastly, you can take on gardening or planting some new plants to add to your landscape. Gardening is a great hobby to take on because once you have a stock built up your grocery costs will decrease, and you will have fresh veggies to eat for you and your family.Â
Basically, you can do anything you want with your time but being outside will make it feel like you’re a little freer during the quarantine. It can be hard to be stuck inside all day and it can get to you mentally after a while. Make sure to take care of yourself and your family and do anything you can to keep you all busy. We hope everyone stays safe and healthy during this time! It will be over before we know it.Â
